Your ballot must be received by election officials by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. A postmark is not enough.

Montana currently advises voters returning ballots by mail to mail them at least one week before Election Day. If Election Day is approaching, use an authorized ballot-return option instead of risking a late mail delivery.

We suggest that you don’t stretch your luck! Get your ballot out by today to make sure it arrives in time.

IMPORTANT REMINDER!

HB 719 was signed into law by Governor Greg Gianforte and became effective October 1, 2025. This law requires voters to provide their year of birth in addition to their signature when returning their by-mail or absentee ballot.

Failure to provide a birth year on a ballot will result in rejection, and the birth year must be provided by 5 pm the day after the election for the ballot to be accepted for counting. In addition to receiving a ballot rejection notice in the mail, the Gallatin County Elections Office will reach out to voters with contact information on file to resolve their ballot in the most expedient means available and as required by law (13-13-245 and 13-19-313, MCA).
